LTE Communication Module for Metcom Solutions MCS301 Energy Meters

In close collaboration with Metcom Solutions, a leading German manufacturer of industrial energy meters, we developed the LTE communication module—a fully integrated LTE solution that enables seamless communication between energy meters and the Head-End System (HES).

The project involved the development of both dedicated LTE hardware and embedded firmware designed for native integration with Metcom’s proprietary meter communication protocol. This tight integration allows all communication functions to be accessed directly through the DLMS/COSEM data model, eliminating the need for legacy management protocols.

The modular architecture of both hardware and software ensures rapid development of new features and hardware versions—supporting various communication technologies such as LTE, LTE-M, and NB-IoT, as well as additional interfaces like RS485.

Thanks to our flexible RTOS-based platform, the devices achieve high stability and require no field maintenance, which is critical in AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) systems where local service visits are costly. Full remote access to energy meters significantly reduces operational expenses.

Security was a key focus throughout the project. The communication module fully supports data encryption and authentication using the DLMS High-Level Security (HLS) protocol, ensuring secure access to measurement data at all times.
