Real-Time LV Grid Supervision and Balancing Solution
In collaboration with PGE Dystrybucja, the largest energy distribution operator in Poland, PySENSE is developing an innovative solution for automated monitoring and balancing of low-voltage (LV) distribution networks. The system enables real-time supervision of LV network segmentation and precise tracking of key technical parameters—such as voltage and current levels—directly from cable connection points (ZK).
The primary goal of this R&D initiative is to transform the way LV grids are managed, moving from static topologies toward dynamic, reconfigurable networks. The solution forms a critical part of a larger system designed to support field operation teams, giving them intelligent tools to manage the network in real-time.
As part of the project, PySENSE developed a dedicated measurement device installed at cable connectors (ZK), which communicates with a concentrator installed at the MV (medium voltage) station using broadband PLC (Power Line Communication) based on IEEE 1901 BPL.
In parallel, we designed a custom BPL concentrator, which integrates with SCADA systems via the DNP3 industrial protocol and provides connectivity through Ethernet and LTE networks.
This project not only advances grid digitalization but also paves the way for fully automated, intelligent distribution networks, improving operational efficiency and grid reliability.
